Nar Phu Valley Trek takes you to the most wilderness region of Nepal.  It is a newly opened trial which is still untouched by the modern civilization and technologies.  Nar Phu valley trek is a perfect trek for those who want to trek in the wilderness region where people are still living in the centuries back then.  The trek was opened for visitors only after 2002. Since, there is less flow of tourism in this area, one can have a peaceful trekking experience and completely enjoy the trials.

Nar Phu Valley Trek is a great alternative to Annapurna region trekking. This exotic trekking destination is tucked between two popular trekking regions Annapurna and Manaslu.  The trek to Nar Phu valley touches both popular trekking routes of Annapurna and Manaslu Regions. The trek starts following the popular trekking routes of Annapurna Circuit trial from Jagat.  The trek then goes to the North of Manang from Koto following the off the beaten track of Nar Phu valley and pass the Kang La Pass with adorable views of Annapurna panorama. This trek takes you to the desert like Tibetan plateau and the most remote village of Nar and Phu. Nar Phu valley trek gives you amazing trekking experience of trekking in the purest Himalayan nature.  

Nar Phu Valley is a restricted trekking area and to trek in these area visitors needs to have a special trekking permit from a registered legal trekking agency in Nepal. The permits are valid only up to seven days and the trekkers must complete the trek within the stated time. The permits to Nar Phu valley costs USD 75 to USD 90 depending on the season.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Welcome to Kathmandu  

Day 02: Drive to Jagat (1100m) 8-9 Hours              

Day 03: Jagat to Dharapani (1,960m) 7-8 hours

Day 04:      Dharapani to Koto (2,610m) 5-6 hours.

Day 05: Trek from Koto to Meta                (3,560m) 7 hours

Day 06: Trek from Meta to Phu (4,080m) 7 hours

Day 07: Acclimatization day in Phu, Hike to Himlung Base Camp (4,800m)              

Day 08: Trek from Phu to Nar Phedi, Overnight in monastery (3,490m) 6 hours

Day 09: Trek from Nar Phedi to Nar Village (4,110m) 3 hours

Day 10: Trek from Nar Village to Kang La Pass (5,240m) to Ngawal (3,650m) 8 hours

Day 11: Trek from Ngawal to Pisang, Drive to Besisahar  4 hours

Day 12: Drive back to Kathmandu

Day 13: Depart Kathmandu                        

Day 01: Welcome to Kathmandu 

Upon your arrival our representatives will be waiting to receive you at the airport. From there they will drop you to the respective hotel in our private vehicles. 

Day 02: Drive to Jagat (1100m) 8-9 Hours

You will have your breakfast at your respective hotel in Kathmandu and drive to Jagat after breakfast. The drive goes through Prithivi Highway where you can explore the countryside villages, lush green hills and Himalayan vistas.  The drive is smooth until Besisahar after that you will have a bumpy drive on dusty roads. After about 8-9 hours drive you will reach Jagat. Overnight in Jagat.

Day 03: Jagat to Dharapani (1,960m) 7-8 hours

Today you will trek to Dharapani from Jagat. The trial descends through a lush green forests passing by a river and then ascents to a sharp- edged cliff.  The trek goes to a beautiful village of Chyamje with an amazing backdrop of the mesmerizing Annapurna mountain ranges.  You will then cross a suspension bridge and from here a steep trial takes you to Sattale. Walking on stoned trials from here you will descend to grassy river bank that takes you to the village of Tal. Following the rugged and winding trials you will pass by the forested village of Karte, waterfalls and then finally reach Dharapani after crossing a suspension bridge. Overnight in Dharapani.

Day 04: Dharapani to Koto (2,610m) 5-6 hours.

After having breakfast at Dharapani you will trek to Koto.  You will climb along the mule track and trek along the forests of fir, oak and maple trees. The trial provides spectacular views of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges. After walking about 5 to 6 hours you will reach to Koto. It is a small village inhabited mostly by people of Gurung community. Overnight in Koto. 

Day 05: Trek from Koto to Meta (3,560m) 7 hours

You will register your restricted area trekking permit at the Police Check Post at Koto and then trek through Pine forests following the bank of Soti Khola River. After crossing streams and a suspension bridge you will reach Dharamsala. From here the trek again goes through forests and a final steep ascend will take you to Meta village.  From the top of Tibetan Plateu you get the stunning views of the Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. Overnight in Meta.

Day 06: Trek from Meta to Phu (4,080m) 7 hours

The trek begins after having breakfast at Meta. You trek goes up and down through forest and rivers. You will cross several suspension bridges and streams on your way.  After trekking about 4 hours you will reach Kyang village where you can see the remnants of Khampa settlement. The trial further goes to Phu Khola following a rocky trial before reaching the Phu village. The walk is about 6-7 hours today. Overnight at Phu.

Day 07: Acclimatization day in Phu, Hike to Himlung Base Camp (4,800m)

Proper acclimatization avoids the risk of getting altitude sickness. Acclimatization at Phu is very important in this trek.  You will explore the Phu village today. You can hike up to Himlung Base Camp or walk up the valley and explore the summer grazing settlements. You can also interact with the locals and observe the grazing yak and sheep. Overnight at Phu.

Day 08: Trek from Phu to Nar Phedi, Overnight in monastery (3,490m) 6 hours

The trek begins after breakfast. You will retrace back towards Meta and move towards Nar Phedi monastery. Every day at 5 pm they perform their rituals and you can observe it. The monastery is a stop for trekkers trekking to Nar. They have neat and clean rooms and provide warm hospitality to the visitors.  Your today’s overnight stay will be at Nar Phedi Monastery.

Day 09: Trek from Nar Phedi to Nar Village (4,110m) 3 hours

You will climb out of Nar Phedi and then trek to Nar village following a winding path. The trial goes through wonderful painted bamboo-topped chortens before reaching to the beautiful village of Nar. The village of Nar is better than Phu village. The people here are more social and lively.  You will explore the village and interact with the locals for the rest of the day. There are few tea houses in the village.  Overnight at Var.

Day 10: Trek from Nar Village to Kang La Pass (5,240m) to Ngawal (3,650m) 8 hours

Today you will trek back to Ngwal village from Nar. You will bid a goodbye to the locals after breakfast and start the trek.  You will walk to the Kang La Pass which joins the trials of Annapurna Circuit Trek. You can have amazing view of the Annapurna ranges from the top.  The trial then descends to Ngawal. The village is very different than that of the villages you have just visited. Overnight at Ngawal.

Day 11: Trek from Ngawal to Pisang, Drive to Besisahar  4 hours

As the elevation decreases the temperature starts decreasing. After having breakfast you will trek to Pisang. The trial today is relatively easier and comfortable. The trek is about four hours and from Pisang you will drive to Besisahar on a bumpy road retracing the same route. Overnight at Pisang.

Day 12: Drive back to Kathmandu

You will drive back to Kathmandu today. Your trek to one of the most remote region ends here. You can now enjoy all the luxuries and facilities you’ve been missing during your trek. Overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 13: Depart Kathmandu         

Cost Includes

  • Twin sharing accommodation at Kathmandu in 3 star hotels with breakfast
  • Accommodation tea houses or tent during trek ( depending upon the availability and type of trek)
