Once you reached an altitude of 5000m the oxygen content in the air is less than 50% than that of the sea level. You have to inform to your guide if you notice any discomfort or symptoms of AMS. Major altitude sickness might need emergency helicopter rescue so make sure your travel insurance covers all the risk including helicopter rescue.
