Introduction & Overview of Bhutan Crane Festival Tour

The festival birds' song and dance in the temple patio in the morning and afternoons of experience with scuttle and stone throwing and archery. We can see fine-hand made carpets, fabrics, paintings, carvings and food by the side of the road to the temple.

You are heartily welcome to the land of Thunder Dragon, Bhutan. You will definitely feel good on the crystal clear air, peaceful environment, and glorious snow capped mountains. After the immigration formalities you will meet Actual Adventure representative with whom you will drive to Thimpu and check in to hotel and let’s have first taste of Bhutanese cuisine. Today we will first drive to a small hill, Sangaygang where the Bhutan Broad Casting tower is stationed. It takes around 15 minutes from the main city. We can enjoy the beautiful view of Thimpu city. On the way to hillock, we can also see the national animal of Bhutan, talking. Then we will move to Buddha point at Kuensel Phodrang which is one of the tourist sites. The 169 feet Buddha’s bronze statues attracts many visitors. At night, the scene of Thimpu valley from here is fantastic and beautiful. After that we will be witnessing the art of traditional weaving at textile Museum. We will not miss visiting the largest Thimpu Dzong. Then we will back to the hotel and spend the night.

Today we will hike to Phajoding Monastery. It takes 3 hours ascent and 2 hour descent. If there is more time left than we can trek to Thuje Dra. We will be mesmerized by the view of Thimpu from Phajoding monastery and Thuje Dra. We can watch the Rhododendron forest from the Thuje Dra. At late noon we will return Thimpu. Then we will go to Changangkha monastery, built in the 12th century which is also the oldest monastery in Thimpu.

Today we will drive to Dochu La Pass 1st where we can see 108 cartons. Then we will hike to observe Dachu la nature through the dense forest of Rhododendron, Magnolia and Juniper about 2 hours. This walk takes us to the Botanical Garden at the bottom. Then we will drive to Punakha Dzong which was built in 1637. The Dzong is the winter home for the clergy. It has portrayed the stunning Bhutanese Architecture, placed in the fork of two rivers. Then our next destination will be Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, built by third queen mother Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck. The Chorten has also impressive Bhutanese architecture and art.

Today is a Crane festival in Gangtey Goemba so we will drive there this morning through Phojikha. Phojikha valley is famous for the winter home for the Black necked cranes. There we can see Gangtey Goemba overlooking the Phojikha valley, built in the 17th century and oldest valley monastery.

To join the local in their Crane festival, we will walk along the Phojikha valley. After enjoying the festival we will back to our hotel.

Today we will visit Talo village, is located on an elevation 2800m high hill above Punakha. The village is spread along the hill slopes. Then next attraction will be Chhimi Lhakhang. We have to walk 20 minutes crosswise patio fields through the village of Sopsokha from the roadside. Then we will walk to the small temple located on a hillock in the center of the valley under Metshina. Then we will return to the beautiful valley, Paro which is considered as a home to many Bhutan’s old monasteries and temple. The valley is also famous for mount Chomolhari (7,300m) is positioned at the northern end of the valley whose glacier water appearances the Pachu running through the valley. Next attraction of the Paro valley is Paro Dzong which is also recognized as Rinpung Dzong, this 15th century huge monastery, is also the executive center of the Dzonkhag. Then we will go to see the National Museum which was Ta Dzong earlier 1968. It was built as a watch tower. Now it brags traditional Thankas, textiles, weapons and armor, household things and rich collection of nature and historic relics.

Today we will drive to heal through Chele La (3,988m). We can see the Paro valley from the pass on the side and then he valley on the other. Haa valley was opened for tourist in 2002 and it is least visited the valley in Bhutan. After visiting Katso Lhakhang at Katso village, we will head to Paro.

We will start our walk from Sang Choekor Buddhist collage (2800m) to Yak Pasture under the Bumdra monastery (3800m). Today early morning we will drive up to the Sang Choekor. We will climb a ridge for the first few hours in a cool shade which takes us to a cleaning with prayer flags and see down into both Paro and Do Chu valleys.

We will reach head to the Chhoe Chhoe Tse Lhakhang (temple) located on the mountainside, 2 hours walk away. We will spend our night under the Bumdra monastery (cave of a thousand prayers). After lunch we will explore the monastery and climb peaks to the north (about 4000m) for the stunning views.

After breakfast we will immerse up the view and hang some prayer flags of our own. Then we will back to the valley through old pine and rhododendron forest. After the few hour descent we will see glimpses golden roofs of temple below. We begin the final descent of about 45 minutes to get our vehicle and drive back to Uma Paro. Then we will go to Thaksang, the tiger's nest which is a famous Himalaya Buddhist holy site and shrine located on the edge of Paro valley. Myths said that Guru Rinpochhe had flown to this place from Tibet on the back of the Tigress and deliberate in a cave. So the place is also famous as Tiger nest.
