Overview of Langtang Gosaikunda Trek with Bird Watching

The Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda trek starts just north of Kathmandu, close to the border with Tibet. It is located in Rasuwa District. The valley is dominated by Langtang Lirung (7246m), the highest peak in the area, and Gosaikunda is famous for the Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage. These are superb introductions to trekking in Nepal among some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole country.

To begin the Langtang Gosaikunda trek, you will have to travel by bus or jeep to Syabrubesi – the trailhead of the Langtang Valley trek. From there, your trek will begin, as you ascend and descend hills, cross bridges, and interact with the locals you meet along the way.

It takes 7-8 hours of driving by road and  3-4 days of 7-8 hours of trekking to reach Langtang valley, and an equal number of days are required for the Gosaikunda Trek. As this is the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek,First you will trek to Langtang valley and then move to Gosaikunda while returning.

Some would describe the weather as mildly cool. For comparison, the hottest month in Langtang National Park, May, has days with highs of 83°F (28°C) and lows of 61°F (16°C). The coldest month, January, has days with highs of 60°F (16°C) and lows of 39°F (4°C).

History of Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda:

Langtang Village is thought to have been first settled by ethnic Tibetans in approximately the 15th century. Local legends state that a traveling Buddhist Lama was chasing an escaped yak when he spotted the fertile valley. For most of its history, Langtang Village depended on subsistence agriculture.

As we talk about the history of Gosaikunda, according to legend, Shiva created the Gosaikunda Lake when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after swallowing a poison that threatened to destroy the world.

Autumn in Langtang Region

Spring in Langtang Region

Spring is the second best season to go trekking in the Langtang Region. During spring the day temperature ranges from 10°C-20°C (50°F-68°F). The days are long and warm during spring and you will have no rush reaching towards your destination. Moreover, you will witness the beautiful blooming flowers along the way during this season. You don’t need to worry about rain or snow during your trek to Langtang in the spring season.

Summer/ Monsoon in Langtang Region

Summer season falls during the months of June, July and August. As summer is the hottest season of the year and also beginning of the Monsoon season trekking is not very suitable during these months. The roads might be blocked due to mud slides and there are chances of heavy rainfall which makes the trial slippery and uncomfortable with leeches, bugs and worms. On the lighter side you can enjoy the greenery and rain washed surrounding of the Langtang region. Though sometimes the fog might interrupt the views but it gets clear after rainfall.

Winter in Langtang Region

The Langtang region gets extremely cold during winter. Winter is the coldest season of the year and it fall during the month of December to February. The temperature drops to minus degree Celsius during the night and day temperature ranges from 6°C-9°C (42.8°F-48.2°F). Furthermore, the heavy snow fall, strong winds and harsh weather condition may create hazards during the trek. After having breakfast at the hotel around 10 am, you will go to the Tourism office with our guide to present the necessary documents to obtain the trek permit.

Trekking Permits:

The most common permits for the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek include the Langtang National Park Entry Permit and the TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card.
These permits are usually arranged by Actual Adventure Pvt. Ltd, and you'll need to provide necessary details such as passport information and passport-sized photos.

TIMS Card:

The TIMS card is a trekking permit that helps track trekkers and ensures their safety. It contains essential information about the trekker, the trekking route, and emergency contacts.

Local Entry Permits:

Depending on the specific route and areas you plan to visit, additional local permits might be required. For example, the Gosaikunda region may have separate permits.

Early Termination of A Trek.

Sometimes the trek ends before the scheduled itinerary due to several reasons regarding health or any other personal issues of the trekkers. If in case, early termination of the trek happens please note that we cannot offer refunds for unused days. It is because we have to pay the committed amount to our porters, guides and other team members. 

Insurance: 

Our clients must have their insurance and the insurance must cover the expenses of accidents, health, emergency evacuation, lost of gears, etc. 

Program Change/ Delay: 

The departure scheduled would be changed on any unavoidable circumstance like weather hazards, trail slides, soil erosion, avalanches, sudden sickness, etc. The program can be customized as per the interest of the clients.
