The Mardi Himal Trek is a moderately challenging adventure, but its difficulty largely depends on your physical fitness. That said, this trek is one of the best options for beginners, as it lacks the tough, technical terrain found in some other Himalayan treks. Hiking up to Mardi Himal High Camp is relatively easy and highly suitable for those who are new to trekking.
For those seeking a bit more of a challenge, you have the option to hike further to the Mardi Himal View Point or even continue all the way up to Mardi Himal Base Camp, making this trek adaptable to a wide range of fitness levels and adventure goals.

Your guide will pick you up at your hotel in Pokhara to start the Mardi Himal Trek. From there, we drive to Dhampus Village and begin trekking. We’ll stop for lunch at Pittam Deurali, a scenic village offering clear views of the Annapurna range on a good weather day. The trek continues through beautiful forests filled with oak, maple, rhododendron, and hemlock trees. You may even spot wildlife like deer and monkeys. The trek from Dhampus to Forest Camp covers 12 kilometers (7.46 miles), taking about 6 to 7 hours. We’ll spend the night at a teahouse in Forest Camp.
On Day 2, we trek from Forest Camp to High Camp. The trail to Low Camp is relatively easy and takes about 2.5 hours. From Low Camp, you’ll have stunning views of Mount Fishtail. After lunch at either Low Camp or Badal Danda, we continue trekking through scenic landscapes, arriving at High Camp after another 2-3 hours. High Camp offers 360-degree views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Mardi Himal. We stay overnight at a teahouse in High Camp.
We start early, waking around 3:40 AM for a pre-dawn hike to Mardi Himal Base Camp or View Point. This is the most challenging day, but the rewards are unmatched with spectacular sunrise views over Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, and other towering peaks. After enjoying the views, we return to High Camp for lunch, then descend to Badal Danda for the night.
We descend from Badal Danda back to Forest Camp before taking a different route toward Landruk. After lunch at Rest Camp or Forest Camp, we continue trekking to Landruk, a peaceful village with traditional teahouse accommodations.
Our final day begins with a short trek to Siwai, taking about 1.5 to 2 hours. From Siwai, we’ll take a private vehicle back to Pokhara, concluding our Mardi Himal adventure.
This itinerary offers a balance of moderate trekking and breathtaking scenery, making it ideal for both beginners and seasoned trekkers.

During the Mardi Himal Trek, the highest point you'll reach is 4,500 meters (14,760 feet) at Mardi Himal Base Camp. Though the chances of altitude sickness are low at this elevation, beginner trekkers or those with low blood pressure may experience symptoms like dizziness or headaches. If you feel any discomfort related to altitude, inform your guide immediately. Our guides are trained in basic first aid and can assist you or take you to a health professional if needed.
The Mardi Himal Trail offers ample accommodation options, all equipped with basic facilities. Newly built hotels and guesthouses dot the path, providing comfortable services. Some lodges even offer hot showers and internet access. While the accommodations may not have the luxuries of city life, the stunning mountain views and serene forested trails will more than compensate for the simpler amenities.
The food provided during the Mardi Himal Trek is simple yet nutritious. You can choose from a variety of vegetarian, non-vegetarian, and vegan options. We recommend trying traditional Nepali food, such as Dal Bhat, as it is both healthy and energizing. Most meals can be customized to fit your dietary preferences or restrictions, ensuring you have a satisfying culinary experience throughout the trek.
Mardi Himal Trek can be undertaken year-round, as it is a relatively easy and low-altitude trek. However, the optimal times to enjoy this trek are during the Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-December) seasons.
Spring (March-May): The vibrant rhododendron forests are in full bloom, and the clear weather provides stunning mountain views. The temperatures during this season are also ideal for trekking.
Autumn (September-December): As one of Nepal’s most festive seasons, autumn sees an influx of domestic tourists. This period offers balanced temperatures, equal days and nights, and clear skies for breathtaking views of the mountain ranges.
Monsoon Season (June-August): While trekking during the monsoon season is possible due to minimal rainfall in the region, trekkers should be cautious of leeches on the trail.
Whether you trek in the lush green of spring or the crisp air of autumn, Mardi Himal offers a rewarding and memorable experience.
The Mardi Himal Trek is considered a moderate trek. It is less strenuous compared to other high-altitude treks in Nepal, like Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Circuit. However, it still requires a decent level of physical fitness, as there are steep ascents and descents, especially around the High Camp and Mardi Himal Base Camp. The highest point of the trek is approximately 4,500 meters (14,764 ft), so altitude may pose some challenges for trekkers. That said, the trek is suitable for beginners with some trekking experience.
Accommodation:
Along the Mardi Himal Trek, you can expect to stay in basic tea houses and lodges. These tea houses usually offer standard rooms with twin beds, simple mattresses, and shared bathrooms. The facilities become more basic as you ascend. There are no luxury accommodations like on more commercialized treks such as Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Base Camp, but the tea houses are comfortable enough for the trek.
Food:
The food on the trek is typical of most treks in Nepal. You will find the traditional Dal Bhat (rice, lentil soup, and vegetables), which is popular due to its large portions and energy-boosting qualities. Other items on the menu might include noodles, soups, pasta, potatoes, eggs, chapati, porridge, pancakes, and momos (dumplings). The food options may become more limited as you go higher, but the meals are wholesome and prepared fresh at the lodges.
Communication services on the Mardi Himal Trek are available but can be spotty at higher elevations. Most tea houses will offer Wi-Fi for an additional charge, but the connection can be unreliable and slow, especially as you get closer to Mardi Himal Base Camp. Mobile network coverage (mainly Ncell and NTC) is available in some parts of the trek, but it also diminishes as you gain altitude. It is advisable to be prepared for limited communication during the trek.
