Overview of Mt. Nirekha peak Climbing.

Nirekha Peak is listed in the list of new ‘A’ trekking peaks of Nepal.  To climb this peak a fee of $500 must be paid. Nirekha Peak lies east of the Cho La Col which is few hundred meters away of the Famous Cho La pass in the same chain as the Lobuche summits.  To climb the summit one needs to be properly trained and experienced. The peak is great and difficult to climb depending on the conditions.

The summit of the peak consists of two pyramids and can be summited to north or south summits. The north summit requires to cross difficult crevasse where as the south summit requires one pitch in steep 50° ice. The first ascent of this summit was done by Matt Fiorett and Greg Valentine in April 2003.  You start the ascent from the Kanchung BC or from the lake camp. Both the ascents offers wonderful sceneries but it is difficult to do in one day from the lake camp.  The peak offers a wonderful view of Mt. Everest. Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Lhotse and other Himalayan ranges. It is demanding trek for anyone with perfect physical fitness and seeking for adventure.
