Wonderful Trekking Experience

Wow what a wonderful experience was that! I feel nostalgic and speechless whenever I am asked about my Everest view trek. That was a trek of a lifetime and I’m soon looking forward for Everest Base Camp trek. The Everest looked extremely amazing and the flight to Lukla was breathtaking yet I was lucky getting a window seat and enjoyed the scenery. It was my fortune to travel with such wonderful companions who had managed everything so perfectly fulfilling everything one could ask for a perfect trek. Thank you Actual Adventure team. I highly recommend this company.

Everest Base Camp trek amazing experience

I went up to the Everest Base camp trek organized by Kedar. The overall experience was amazing and Kedar’s experience in organizing the trip was incredibly helpful with flights, a guide, overall advice and even a place to eat in Kathmandu prior to the trek.

The guide, Pemba was also an incredible person; he was knowledgeable about the region, the mountain and safety. He was also pleasure to be around and a lot of fun- sharing stories, giving suggestions for interesting side trips and introducing us to his many friends on the trip

Overall: an amazing experience

Everest Base Camp and kalapather trek

Booked a trip with Actual Adventure Trekking- 13 days to EBC, had a great time- no problems whatsoever. The base camp trek was thoroughly enjoyable staying at tea houses & getting used to the high altitude. The guide knew exactly what he was doing & helped me get the best prices on everything. Also stayed at their Alpine Hotel (Sujan picked me up from the airport & organised everything), amazing all you can eat breakfast & tidy rooms. Would highly recommend this company to everyone. Very welcoming to everyone. A++

Amazing experience with family and close friends

Everest Base Camp Trek was a dream come true for all 10 of us ( three families ) The trek was not an easy one but the arrangements by Actual Adventure was excellent. They gave us the right guide and assistant guides. Even the porters were very friendly. The accommodation and food arranged en route were very comfortable and also the itinerary was kept flexible. Mr. Kedar Neupane is a very hands on man - right from receiving our team at Kathmandu airport till the end of the trip. He was constantly monitoring our progress and giving instructions to the guide Mr. Binod Nepal. We had members in age group of 20s to 50s but in the end we all made it to EBC. We would definitely recommend Actual Adventures to all our friends who are planning to make the trip.

Excellent Management and tremendous service

My Trekking experience with Actual Adventure was awesome. I did Everest Base Camp Trek with them on October 2017 and the services were outstanding. We were a group of five people having zero trekking knowledge. The guides were extremely talented and super professional. They handled each of us patiently with much care and no discrimination at all. The accommodation and food were great. I had one of the most memorable treks of my life. I personally recommend this company for best trekking experience.

I found Actual Adventure from goggle and emailed Kedar. He immediately responded and I was quite satisfied with the response. I did the Everest Base Camp Trek with them and it was an experience of lifetime. All the members of the company were energetic and highly professional. The guide Pasang was very experienced and helpful. I was not so used to Nepali food and I wasn’t much comfortable with the taste so I told him and he even managed western food in the Everest. Some of the trials were really difficult but with the help of my guide I really made it to the base camp. Thank you Actual Adventure Team for the remarkable service and I highly recommend this company.

Great views, amazing team and excellent trek

I get to know about this company by one of my co-worker who had visited Nepal before. I was also planning to trek to Everest Base Camp and since I was unknown to this country my friend suggested me to travel with this company. It was one among the best choices. Kedar was very helpful during the entire trek and had already managed all the required permits and domestic flights. The guide was amazing and the view of Everest from Kalapatthar was breathtaking. I enjoyed each and every small steps of my trek. Thanks to the amazing team. Great team, great effort and rewarding service!

Having just returned from my third trip to Nepal, I can highly recommend Actual Adventure as a trek operator. I used their services for the third time, and will definitely be back for more next year. Kedar and Sujan who run the company really care and look after their customers, from the moment you land in Nepal and until the departure. There are two key factors for a successful trip which they have nailed down - they use top notch guides and they are personally available at any times of the day to assist with. They are highly professional, really care about the customer needs, but also are just the nicest and easiest people to deal with. Many things in Nepal can be difficult, like getting local flights or especially last minute changes to local flights during the high season, but they make everything easy. And last but not least, their services are really fairly priced. Needless to say, when I’m back in Nepal next year for my next adventure, it will be undoubtedly with Actual Adventure!

Everest Base Camp has been on my bucket list my entire life and I finally did it 10th November 2016. I researched companies on TripAdvisor and settled on Actual Adventures as Kedar was always prompt with replies and eager to answer my many many questions. Originally planned to go with my son but when his plans changed I decided to take a leap of faith and go alone - I had some reservations about being a woman travelling alone but it turned out I had nothing to worry about. Kedar met me at the airport and transferred to the Yak and Yeti Hotel - a very nice start to such a big adventure. I was introduced to Binod on the morning of our departure and as I'd made the mistake of looking up Lukla landings on Youtube, was quite nervous about that leg. Binod put my mind at rest and I think he would have happily held my hand if that had been necessary. The flight to Lukla was like a Disney ride once you get over the nerves of such a tiny plane. We picked up our porter Dilip upon landing and we were off .... the higher in altitude we traveled the more remote and basic the tea houses and you need to be prepared to rough it .... no hot water, but then it's too cold to shower anyway and the food can sometimes be basic compared to what we westerners are used to ... but it's not about that - it's about the experience of a lifetime - and that, it certainly was ! The scenery is breathtaking in every direction and every day gets better. The sense of accomplishment upon ascending Kala Pattar and the most magnificent, close up views of Mt Everest will remain with me as a highlight - also the hardest part of the trek - at 5500 meters the air's pretty thin !! Binod was extremely helpful, cheerful and a complete professional. He was able to answer any question and I felt able to rely upon him for everything and anything, from advising me to use my water bottle as a hot water bottle inside my sleeping bag at night, to showing me which were the safest rocks to step on when crossing frozen rivers. I can highly recommend Actual Adventures and if you're thinking about doing Everest - stop thinking and just DO IT !!

Adventurous tour with Actual Adventure!

I’m always an adventure seeker and what else could be a best place for adventure rather than Nepal. I did Nepal Adventure Tour with Actual Adventure and it was a wonderful experience. The itinerary was well planned and included the best adventures. Kedar and Sujan managed everything so perfectly. Rafting and Bunjee jump was a thrilling and terrific experience. Sujan was with us as our travel guide he managed everything and used to ask a lot of question for our safe adventure with the agents. He made our journey more memorable. All the services were exceeding and I had the best adventures of my life.

Upper Mustang Jeep Tour

I recently completed a Jeep Tour of Upper Mustang with Actual Adventures. Beginning with the planning phase working directly with Kedar, everything was seamless. Nepal holds a special place in my heart ever since visiting years before, and I knew I would always return. My first visit to Nepal, my friends and I handled everything ourselves from TIMS cards to ACAP permits, and it was quite confusing and time consuming. This time Actual Adventures handled everything while we relaxed at our hotel in Kathmandu. As far as the tour itself, we had an amazing tour guide and driver. Thank you to our guide, Mr. Lakpa Sherpa! His kindness and attentiveness to our needs were superb. Our driver, Sunil, a native of Pokhara was also top notch. He drove us on the wildest, scariest roads I have ever experienced. All the way from Pokhara to Lo Manthang, including the hair-raising road above the Kali Gandaki, the deepest river gorge in the world. Don't be fooled by how young he is, he is an expert at driving these wild roads.

I have a feeling there will be another trip to Nepal in my future, and I have no doubt that I will use Actual Adventures once again!

Full cultural immersion, in the calmest seas on earth.

Given you’re likely sifting through dozens of reviews, I’ll start with the most important thing I have to say: I highly recommend Actual Adventure. There is no substitute for youthful enthusiasm, dedication to customer service, and experience. Simply put, Actual Adventure is a class act.

The details behind my emphatic recommendation are specific to our itinerary but serve only to further the above. We selected Actual Adventure from a list of four different tour/guide companies, all of which were Nepali-owned (a requirement of ours). Kedar responded to our proposed itinerary emails directly, without copy/paste replies, and in a very timely manner. These early replies not only helped us conclude his company was the one we wanted to hire, they also helped us refine our proposed itinerary.

Kedar is the organizational and administration face of Actual Adventure and in that capacity he truly delivers. When we ended our jeep tour through Upper Mustang ahead of schedule (go ahead, judge us, as someone who generally prefers to travel by foot with only a backpack, I know you can’t resist), Kedar went for extra credit. He helped my friend make arrangements to return to the US early while simultaneously making arrangements for me to visit a completely different region of the country (Lumbini). Kedar wasn’t just the man who sold us a “package holiday,” he was our personal travel agent. What’s more, his hotel selections were, without exception, excellent, even in places like Lumbini where luxury accommodations are hard to come by and stand out in disturbing contrast to the lives of everyday Nepalis in the region. As I have implied, when you look for companies to arrange a trip as complicated as ours (thanks to the Byzantine nature of the Nepali government), you will find many options. I strongly encourage you to consider the points I’ve raised as you entertain a selection.

Of Kedar’s many roles in our journey, none was more important than the selection of our guide. We were specific: we wanted to travel to and within Upper Mustang with a practicing Buddhist who was familiar with the area, its people, and its geography. Kedar partnered us with a guide named Lakpa who quickly became the second best thing about Actual Adventure. To some degree, it’s easy to bond with most guides for, to those willing and able to appreciate it, the fundamental nature of Nepalese culture is kindness. Lakpa’s kindness was apparent from the moment we met him. He tirelessly attended to our needs day and night. This was not the expectation we arrived in Nepal with, for even on our first journey to Nepal five years ago, we were traveled enough to know why we left the excesses of Demoterialism at home and knew better than to expect such absurdities in Nepal. Nevertheless, Lakpa shuttled around towns, hotels, villages, and tea houses like a consummate professional. He had an excellent understanding of what westerners would consider “nice” and did his utmost to offer it to us. Obviously language can be a significant issue with any journey abroad. Lakpa taught himself English (how many of us have taught ourselves anything, least of all something as complex as English?), and even in a critical situation (my travel partner contracted strep throat while on the trail), he understood the issue and helped us resolve it. My final thoughts on Lakpa are unique. When we ended our journey with a few extra days and I expressed an interest in visiting Lumbini, he immediately assisted. We traveled together to the birthplace of Buddha as pilgrims, neither of us having been there before. He was my interpreter, that much is certain, but as far off script as we were, he was firstly my friend. Thank you Lakpa.

Kedar also paired us with a young man whose driving abilities on the Himalayan roads cannot go without mention. Sunil, if you read this, know simply that your skills and cool on roads I can, with some authority, describe as absolutely harrowing, put the chest-pounding 4x4 driving abilities of many Coloradans completely to shame.

Finally, it is necessary to put my recommendations into some larger context. As I’ve alluded to already, I didn’t travel to Nepal expecting it to be the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, or anything other than Nepal. I didn’t expect administrative efficiencies at the airport, in the government, or even at the tea houses. This is Nepal folks, settle down and enjoy the chaos. No tour company in the world can (or should) insulate you from the culture you’ve traveled to experience. If you feel that somehow $1,000 in airfare and $2,000 in services entitles your plane to be on time, your bag to be first off the belt (hint, there is no belt), your tea house to have a western-style toilet, or the weather during your trip to be perfect, again, settle down. In a country where people work longer hours and for less pay than we are generally used to seeing in any of the aforementioned countries/regions, where parents frequently work abroad while children remain at home with family elders, it is important for us to remember we are guests not visiting deities.

I love Nepal and I missed it the moment my plane departed from Kathmandu five years ago. That draw compelled me to return, to explore more. Kedar and Actual Adventure not only made that return journey possible, they made it personal and memorable. Thank you Kedar.

Hike to Poon Hill at Chrismas time 2018 !

It’s impossible to visit Nepal without undertaking a trek to one of its peaks or mountain towns. A popular one is the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, which takes the dauntless from small villages and campsites and through stunning lands, and this four-day hike will reward you with beautiful sunrise views of the Himalayas. A very enjoyable trek. Poon hill was my first ever trek and at times I found the steps challenging but that's what makes this trip that more rewarding. "Actual Adventure" made my time in Nepal very memorable and their hospitality was so great I will not forget it.
