Introduction: The Beginning of My World Yatra
Travel has never been only about visiting new places for me. It has been a journey of learning, connecting with people, understanding cultures, discovering opportunities, and seeing the world beyond the boundaries of Nepal.
My World Yatra began in Thailand in 2012. What started as an international travel experience gradually became a much larger journey across Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East.
Over the years, I have travelled through 22 countries and destinations, each offering a different lesson and a different perspective on life.
From the colorful streets and temples of Thailand to the Himalayan landscapes of Bhutan, from the modern cities of Singapore and Hong Kong to the historic heart of Europe, from the deserts of the UAE and Qatar to the multicultural cities of North America—every destination became a chapter in my personal travel story.
This is not simply a list of countries I have visited.
This is my World Yatra.
Chapter 1: Thailand — Where My World Yatra Began
Thailand | 2012
Thailand holds a special place in my travel history because it was the starting point of my international World Yatra.
The country introduced me to a completely different environment—international tourism, modern hospitality, multicultural travelers, busy cities, tropical landscapes and a tourism industry operating at a remarkable scale.
Bangkok immediately showed me the energy of a global city. The combination of traditional temples, modern shopping centers, street markets, restaurants and international visitors created an atmosphere unlike anything I had experienced before.
Thailand also helped me understand an important lesson:
Tourism is not simply about destinations. Tourism is about creating experiences.
The hospitality industry, transportation systems, tour operations and customer service in Thailand provided valuable observations that later influenced my professional journey in Nepal's tourism sector.
Places that made an impression
Bangkok
Pattaya
Phuket
Traditional temples
Local markets
Thai cultural experiences
International tourism hubs
Thailand became the first chapter of my World Yatra—and the beginning of a much bigger journey.
Chapter 2: Bhutan — Into the Himalayan Kingdom
Bhutan offered a completely different experience.
Although geographically close to Nepal, Bhutan has developed a distinctive tourism identity based on Himalayan landscapes, Buddhist culture, monasteries and carefully managed tourism.
The journey through Bhutan provided an opportunity to observe how a small Himalayan country can protect its culture while welcoming international visitors.
The peaceful environment, traditional architecture and mountain landscapes created a powerful contrast with the fast-moving cities I had experienced elsewhere.
Bhutan taught me:
The importance of cultural preservation
Sustainable tourism
The value of authenticity
Himalayan hospitality
The relationship between tourism and local communities
Bhutan reminded me that a destination does not need to be large to become globally recognized.
Chapter 3: Malaysia — A Multicultural Experience
Malaysia was another important chapter in my Asian journey.
Kuala Lumpur represents the country's modern face, with impressive architecture, international business, shopping, transportation and hospitality.
But Malaysia's real strength is its multicultural identity.
Malay, Chinese, Indian and other communities have created a diverse social and cultural environment.
The experience helped me appreciate the importance of multicultural tourism and international cooperation.
Malaysia highlights
Kuala Lumpur
Petronas Twin Towers
Cultural diversity
Malaysian cuisine
Modern transportation
International hospitality
Business and tourism opportunities
Malaysia demonstrated how diversity can become a strength in tourism and business.
Chapter 4: Singapore — The City of Organization
Singapore was one of the strongest examples of how planning, discipline, infrastructure and tourism can work together.
The city-state is compact, but its influence is global.
Clean streets, efficient transportation, modern architecture, business districts, shopping centers and world-class hospitality make Singapore one of Asia's most recognizable destinations.
For someone working in tourism, Singapore provides countless lessons.
Singapore taught me about:
Efficiency.
Cleanliness.
Planning.
Technology.
Customer service.
International standards.
The experience encouraged me to think beyond traditional tourism and consider how technology and professional management can transform travel businesses.
Chapter 5: China — A Civilization and a Modern Power
China provided a completely different scale of travel experience.
The country combines thousands of years of civilization with enormous modern cities and rapidly developing infrastructure.
China's historical heritage, cultural traditions and modern economic development demonstrate how the past and future can exist together.
The journey offered opportunities to observe Chinese culture, cities, transportation and tourism from a different perspective.
China highlights
Ancient cultural heritage
Modern cities
Chinese cuisine
Traditional architecture
Large-scale infrastructure
Tourism development
Business opportunities
China reinforced one important realization:
Travel teaches us to see the world from perspectives other than our own.
Chapter 6: Hong Kong — Where East Meets West
Hong Kong offered another unique experience.
The city's skyline, harbor, high-rise buildings, international businesses and traditional neighborhoods create an extraordinary combination of cultures.
Hong Kong showed me the power of a destination that successfully combines:
Business
Tourism
Finance
Shopping
Food
Culture
International connectivity
The city is small geographically, yet enormous in its global influence.
Chapter 7: Germany — Entering Europe
My World Yatra eventually expanded into Europe.
Germany represented a new chapter.
European cities provided a completely different historical and cultural environment from Asia.
Germany's organization, infrastructure, transportation and historical heritage made a strong impression.
Traveling through Europe also made me understand the importance of regional connectivity.
One journey can cross several countries, languages and cultures within a relatively short distance.
Germany became my gateway into a broader European travel experience.
Chapter 8: Poland — History, Resilience & Culture
Poland offered an opportunity to experience a country shaped by a complex history.
Its cities, architecture, cultural traditions and people provide a fascinating travel experience.
Poland demonstrated how tourism can preserve history while simultaneously creating a modern destination.
The journey was not only about sightseeing.
It was about understanding how societies remember their past and continue building their future.
Chapter 9: Austria — The Beauty of the Alps
Austria brought me back toward the mountains.
The Alps, historic cities, classical culture and elegant architecture create a distinctive tourism identity.
Austria reminded me of Nepal in one important way:
Mountains can become the foundation of a country's tourism identity.
But Austria also showed how mountain tourism can be supported by excellent infrastructure, transportation, hospitality and destination management.
For someone involved in Himalayan tourism, this comparison is especially valuable.
Chapter 10: Switzerland — The Mountain Dream
Switzerland was one of the most memorable chapters of my European journey.
The Swiss Alps demonstrate what happens when natural beauty is combined with excellent tourism infrastructure.
Mountains, lakes, villages, railways and carefully developed tourism facilities create a seamless travel experience.
For a tourism professional from Nepal, Switzerland naturally inspires comparisons with the Himalayas.
Nepal possesses extraordinary mountains and landscapes.
Switzerland demonstrates how infrastructure, accessibility, service quality and destination branding can transform natural beauty into a world-class tourism product.
Switzerland inspired a simple thought:
Nepal has the mountains. We must continue building the experience around them.
Chapter 11: Hungary — Budapest & European Heritage
Hungary provided another cultural perspective.
Budapest, with its historic architecture, Danube River and distinctive European atmosphere, represents the country's rich heritage.
The journey demonstrated how rivers, architecture, history and culture can become central components of destination branding.
Every city has a story.
The challenge of tourism is to help visitors discover that story.
Chapter 12: Netherlands — Innovation & Open Horizons
The Netherlands provided a different perspective on European society.
Its cities, canals, cycling culture, architecture and international outlook create a distinctive identity.
The Netherlands also demonstrates the importance of innovation and efficient urban planning.
Traveling through the country reinforced my belief that successful tourism depends on more than attractions.
It depends on:
Accessibility + Infrastructure + Branding + Hospitality + Experience.
Chapter 13: Belgium — The Heart of Europe
Belgium offered a compact but culturally rich European experience.
Historic architecture, European institutions, cuisine and multicultural cities demonstrate Belgium's position at the crossroads of Europe.
Brussels particularly represents international cooperation and diplomacy.
The journey provided another reminder that tourism naturally connects people across borders.
Chapter 14: France — Art, Culture & Tourism
France is one of the world's strongest tourism brands.
Paris needs little introduction.
The city's architecture, museums, food, fashion, history and cultural identity have created a tourism image recognized almost everywhere.
France showed me the power of storytelling in tourism.
A destination becomes stronger when people around the world can immediately associate it with a feeling, image or experience.
For Nepal, this is an important lesson.
Nepal should not only promote mountains.
We should tell the stories of:
The Himalayas.
Ancient cultures.
Living heritage.
Adventure.
Spiritual journeys.
Local communities.
Food.
Nature.
People.
Chapter 15: UAE — Tourism in the Desert
The United Arab Emirates provided one of the strongest examples of rapid transformation.
Dubai and other destinations demonstrate how investment, infrastructure, aviation, hospitality and ambitious destination marketing can transform a desert environment into a global tourism hub.
The UAE experience provided valuable lessons about:
Luxury tourism
Aviation connectivity
Shopping tourism
Business travel
International events
Hotel development
Destination marketing
The UAE proved that tourism is also an industry of vision.
Chapter 16: United Kingdom — Tradition Meets Global Tourism
The United Kingdom brought another major European experience.
London is one of the world's most international cities.
History, monarchy, museums, universities, business, finance, culture and international communities all contribute to its tourism identity.
The UK experience also highlighted the importance of long-term destination branding.
A country can turn its history into a contemporary tourism product.
Chapter 17: USA — The Scale of Possibility
Traveling to the United States added another major dimension to my World Yatra.
The USA is enormous, diverse and highly regional.
New York, cities on the West Coast, business centers and tourism destinations demonstrate completely different versions of America.
The country reinforced my belief in the power of entrepreneurship.
Tourism in the USA operates at a huge scale, combining:
Nature
Entertainment
Business
Technology
Adventure
Hospitality
Road travel
International tourism
The journey provided not only travel memories but also ideas about business, innovation and international markets.
Chapter 18: Turkey — Where Continents Meet
Turkey is geographically and culturally fascinating because it connects Europe and Asia.
The country combines ancient civilizations, Islamic heritage, Ottoman history, Mediterranean landscapes and modern cities.
Istanbul particularly represents the idea of a bridge between worlds.
Turkey reminded me that geography can become a powerful tourism story.
A destination can become memorable when its identity is naturally connected to its history and location.
Chapter 19: Qatar — Modernity in the Gulf
Qatar presented another example of rapid development in the Middle East.
Doha's modern skyline, international aviation, luxury hospitality and growing tourism infrastructure demonstrate the country's ambitions as a global destination.
Qatar also highlighted the importance of international events in destination promotion.
Major events can introduce millions of people to a country and create long-term tourism opportunities.
Chapter 20: India — Our Great Neighbor
India is geographically close to Nepal, but traveling through India provides an enormous range of cultural experiences.
From major cities to historic destinations, spiritual centers, mountains, deserts and coastal regions, India contains extraordinary diversity.
For Nepal, India is especially important because of:
Tourism connectivity
Cultural connections
Religious tourism
Business relationships
Air and road connectivity
Shared Himalayan heritage
Traveling through India reinforced my belief that Nepal and India can create stronger tourism cooperation and cross-border travel experiences.
Chapter 21: Indonesia — Islands, Culture & Hospitality
Indonesia provided another Asian perspective.
The country's islands, tropical landscapes, cultural traditions and hospitality make it a major international tourism destination.
Bali in particular demonstrates how a destination can build a powerful international identity around:
Nature + Culture + Wellness + Hospitality + Experience.
Indonesia reminded me that tourism products do not need to be complicated.
Sometimes the strongest product is a simple combination of beautiful surroundings and authentic culture.
Chapter 22: Canada — The Northern Chapter
Canada became another important chapter in my World Yatra.
Canada's enormous landscapes, multicultural cities and natural attractions provide a different tourism experience from Europe and Asia.
Cities such as Toronto, Vancouver and other destinations demonstrate the country's international character.
Canada also provides a valuable example of multicultural society and nature-based tourism.
The combination of cities, mountains, lakes, forests and adventure opportunities creates enormous tourism potential.
For a Nepali tourism professional, Canada's love of nature and outdoor adventure is especially interesting.
My World Yatra: What Travel Taught Me
After traveling through these countries and cultures, I have learned that the greatest value of travel is not the number of countries on a passport.
The real value is what travel changes inside us.
1. Travel creates understanding
Meeting people from different cultures teaches us that the world is diverse—but also surprisingly connected.
2. Travel creates business ideas
Every destination offers examples of successful tourism products, hospitality systems, transportation and destination marketing.
3. Travel teaches humility
The more of the world we see, the more we understand how much we still have to learn.
4. Travel creates relationships
Some of the most valuable outcomes of international travel are the people we meet.
5. Travel strengthens Nepal's tourism vision
Every country I visited gave me something to compare with Nepal.
Nepal has extraordinary natural and cultural assets.
Our Himalayas, trekking trails, climbing peaks, villages, temples, wildlife and living cultures can compete internationally when combined with quality service, infrastructure, safety, professionalism and strong storytelling.
From Traveller to Tourism Entrepreneur
My World Yatra is closely connected with my professional journey in Nepal's tourism industry.
The experiences gained from international travel helped shape my understanding of:
International travelers
Tour operations
Trekking
Adventure tourism
Transportation
Hospitality
Destination marketing
B2B partnerships
International travel markets
Customer expectations
The world became my classroom.
Every airport was a lesson.
Every hotel was a lesson.
Every guide was a lesson.
Every traveler I met was a lesson.
Every country became another chapter.

My Travel Philosophy
I believe:
“The world is a book, and every journey is a new chapter.”
A passport is more than a travel document.
It is a collection of experiences.
A boarding pass is more than a piece of paper.
It is the beginning of another story.
A photograph is more than an image.
It is a memory of a moment that can never be repeated in exactly the same way.
And a journey is more than distance.
It is transformation.
World Yatra — The Journey Continues
My World Yatra started in Thailand in 2012, but the journey is not finished.
There are still countries to explore, cultures to understand, mountains to climb, people to meet and stories to tell.
My home remains Nepal—the country of the Himalayas, living cultures, adventure and extraordinary hospitality.
The more of the world I travel, the more strongly I believe that Nepal has a unique place in global tourism.
The future is about connecting Nepal with the world.
Connecting travelers with the Himalayas.
Connecting cultures with people.
Connecting adventure with experience.
And creating journeys that visitors remember for a lifetime.

Final Reflection
When I look back at the journey from Thailand in 2012 to the many countries I have experienced since then, I do not see only a map filled with destinations.
I see people.
I see friendships.
I see airports and roads.
I see mountains and cities.
I see different languages, foods and cultures.
I see lessons learned from every journey.
Most importantly, I see a world that is much more connected than it appears from a distance.
