Upper Dolpo Region Trek 25 Days is a journey to the isolated wilderness region of Nepal. This trek offers magnificent views of the snow capped mountains, hidden valleys and the beauty of nature remained untouched by human civilization till the date. The world famous biologist, conservationist and author George B Schaller has finely described every trials of Upper Dolpo Trek in his book “Stones of Silence”. Moreover, this region was also captured in the international award winning movie ‘Caravan’.
Upper Dolpo Trek 25 Days takes you to the largest and only trans- Himalayan National Park of Nepal, ‘Shey Phoksundo National Park’. The park is blessed with the wild diversity of flora and faunas along with spectacular landscapes. The Shey Phoksundo National Park is a home to several endangered species including snow leopard, Musk Deer, Blue Sheep, Jackal, Himalayan Thar, Himalayan Black Beer and many others. The park is a habitat for over 200 species of Birds, Six reptiles and 29 species of Butterflies. The highest flying Butterfly Paralasa Nepalaica can be found in Shey Phoksundo National Park. Furthermore, the Upper Dolpo region is also a treasure house of the Himalayan gold ‘Yarsagumba’.
This Upper Dolpo Trek 25 Day lets you to explore the isolated cultures of different religions including the Bon Po religion, remote villages, exotic waterfalls, icy waters of Phokshundo Lake and walk on the footsteps of ancient Himalayan traders. This once in a lifetime trek will be one of your best trekking experiences to cherish for lifetime.
Upon your arrival at TIA airport, Kathmandu our representatives will welcome you and transfer you to the respective hotel. We will provide you traditional welcome dinner with cultural shows. Overnight at Hotel.
Today you will have sightseeing day in Kathmandu. Kathmandu city is full of historical and cultural sites. Kathmandu city is one of the cities with numbers of UNESCO world heritage sites in the world. You will visit Soyambhunath Stupa also known as (Monkey Temple), Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple. Overnight at Hotel.
After an early morning breakfast you will move to TIA and fly to Nepalgunj. It is about one hour flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. Nepalgunj is situated in the Terai part of Nepal. It is a flat land with hot and humid climate. You can find a huge difference in temperature of Nepalgunj and Kathmandu. You will be then transferred to the hotel. Overnight in Nepalgunj.
Today you will again have a short scenic flight to Juphal. It is about 35 minute’s flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal. From there you will trek to Dunai. Today is the initial beginning of your trek to Upper Dolpo Trek. The trek today is mostly a downhill walk. It takes about 3 hours to reach to Dunai. Overnight at Dunai.
On the fifth day of your Upper Dolpo trek you will trek to Ankhe. The trek begins after breakfast at Dunai. From here you will cross a suspension bridge and trek towards hospital. After passing a hospital the trial ascends up towards Thulo Bheri and then continues towards Phoksundo river valley. The trial offers wonderful view of Kagmara Peak from a t 2499m. The trial descends through walnut groves at 2,810m. You will then reach to Dhera which is a winter settlement for people from higher villages. The trial again ascends to a Thakuri village Rahagaon at 2900m where you can see and visit the local Gompa and walking further to a canyon and a short downhill trek from here will take you to the village of Ankhe. Overnight at Ankhe.
After having breakfast at Ankhe you will trek towards Renje. The trek today is relatively the most difficult treks of your Upper Dolpo Trek. After crossing the river on well made bridges the trial becomes steep. You will walk on very narrow trials hugging the cliff face. The trial then descends to the river and then again takes another steep ascent towards Renje. The trials are difficult but worth the views. Overnight at Renje.
Today you will be trekking towards Phoksundo Lake. The beginning of the trek is easy until few hours but the trial becomes steep from Sumdo. After crossing a river the trial follows the path high above the water. The trial climbs up to a ridge which gives you a magnificent view of the highest waterfall in Nepal and also you will have your first view of Phoksundo Lake. The trial descends through brich forests and then reaches to Phoksundo Khola and further trek to Ringmo village where you will see Mud plastered chortens and Mani walls. A short wlk from here will take you to Phoksundo Lake. Overnight in a camp.
Today you will trek from Phoksundo Lake to Phoksundo Khola. The trial follows the edge of the Lake and then goes steeply up and enters to a remote area passing by some hazardous trials and crevices. The trials then goes steeply up and again descents down to Phoksundo Khola. Overnight at Phoksundo Khola.
Today you will trek back to Phoksundo Bhanjyang. You will cross few streams and river on your way today. The trek goes up and down through narrow paths, wooden bridge, and several ridges. You will pass by several valleys, meadows and ravine. The trial today is steep and adventurous with wonderful views.
After having breakfast the trek begins. The trek goes to Kang La pass which takes about 3 hours. From the top you can see the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. From the pass a steep descent will take you to Shey Gompa. Overnight at Shey Gompa.
Today is your rest day at Shey Gompa. The monastery is also known as Crystal Gompa as the word Shey means crystal. Shey Gompa belongs to the Chaiba community, followers of the Padmasambhava and Kagyu sects. You will explore the monastery and the surroundings today. Overnight at Shey Gompa.
After having breakfast at Shey Gompa you will trek to Saldang La Pass. The trek goes through beautiful Juniper forests and ascents to a grey, stony canyon. The trek offers magnificent views of beautiful Mustang Valley and Tibetan Himalayan chain. You will visit a monastery in Namdum Gaon which belongs to Karma Pa sect of Buddhism. Overnight at Namdum.
You will have your breakfast and continue the trek. The trek begins ascending towards the hill and continuing towards dusty trials from where you can see the barren landscapes. The trial then passes through steep gorges towards a wide plain terrain and you finally reach to Saldang. Overnight at Saldang.
The trek begins with a walk way down to river bed and goes through the terraced fields, chortens, stupas and Mani walls to Chiba monastery. You will then pass by Namdo village which is a large village of this region with nearly four hundred inhabitants. You will also visit Namdo Monastery located on the side of river and continue further to Sibu. Overnight at Sibu.
After having breakfast at Sibu you will trek to the foot of Jeng La. The trial today is relatively easy with pleasant trials. You will camp behind the enchanting meadows of the valley. Overnight at Jeng La.
After having breakfast you will trek towards Jeng La pass. After crossing Jeng La pass (4,845m) you will descend to Tokyo Gaon. Tokyo Gaon is a beautiful village surrounded by chortens and monasteries. Overnight at Tokyo Gaon.
You will trek to Chiba Gompa early in the morning. The monastery is rich in history architecture. After visiting the monastery you will trek back to Camp and then trek to Dho Tarap. Overnight at Do Tarap.
After having breakfast at Dho Tarap. You will begin the today’s trek following the bank of Tarap Khola. You will then head through the narrow George. You can see different animals along the trials. Overnight at Serkam.
After having breakfast you will begin the todays trek. Today you will trek to Khani Gaon following the George of Khani Khola. The trial today is steep and has plenty of Ups and down. Overnight at Khani Gaon.
You will have your breakfast at Khani Gaon and trek to Tarakot. The trek today is relatively easier. You will walk beside the Bheri River. Overnight at Tarakot.
After having breakfast at Tarakot you will trek to Dunai. You will be walking on a relatively easily trial up to Dunai. Overnight at Dunai.
Here comes the end of the trek. The trek is short an easy. After having breakfast you will trek to Jhuphal. The trek is about three hours. You can have plenty of time for rest. Overnight at Jhuphal.
Today you will fly to Nepalgunj from Jhuphal and then fly to Kathmandu. The total duration of the flight is 1 hour and 35 minutes. Overnight at Kathmandu.
Today you will have lesiure day at Kathmandu. You can rest in the hotel or visit the city on your own. The guides will help you if you need help for shopping or sightseeing. Overnight in Kathmandu.

I and my friend planned for doing Upper Dolpo Trek. I was not known to Nepal and it was my first trek but my friend had already completed his EBC trek and it was his 2nd visit to Nepal.
